HEARING AIDS FOR CHILDREN
Fitting hearing aids on children is the most challenging job for most audiologists. Children with mild to moderate hearing loss fall in a category that is relatively easy to fit hearing aids. Fitting hearing aids on children with severe to profound hearing loss is most challenging but not impossible. When choosing a hearing aid for a child, the right technology and style is most important. Children with mild to severe hearing loss can be fitted with low power behind the ear or receiver in canal hearing aids. However children with severe to profound hearing loss need to be fitted with high power behind the ear hearing aids. Receiver in canal hearing aids with high power receivers can also be used in some cases. All the hearing aids fitted on children need to have a technology that intelligently identifies high-frequency speech cues, then replicating them in lower frequencies. The hearing aids also need to have protection from sweat, earwax and other oily substances.
